In the 1st half of the 2022 financial year ended March 31, the pre-tax loss of the British low-cost carrier easyJet Plc decreased by 13.6% to 557 million pounds ($ 687.6 million) against 645 million pounds in the same period a year earlier. The loss narrowed on the back of an increase in revenue due to an increase in passenger traffic.
According to the airline, the adjusted loss fell to 454 million pounds from 701 million pounds. In April, the carrier predicted that this figure would be in the range of 535-565 million pounds.
Revenue in the 1st financial half rose to 1.498 billion pounds from 240 million pounds a year earlier. At the same time, revenues in the field of passenger transportation increased to 985 million pounds from 170 million pounds.
The airline transported 23.4 million passengers in 6 months against 4.1 million in the same period a year earlier. Flight occupancy rose to 77.3% from 63.7%.
EasyJet also reported that 76% of seats have already been sold out for the 3rd financial quarter, and 36% for the 4th. At the same time, over the past 10 weeks, the volume of bookings exceeded by 6% the figure for the same period of pre-pandemic 2019.
"We are confident that we will achieve our plans to reach levels close to 2019 levels this summer," CEO Johan Lundgren said in a statement.
easyJet's share price is down today. The carrier's market value has fallen 10.6% since the start of the year to £3.8bn, while the FTSE 100 stock index has lost 1.3% over the period.
